Jack in the Box National Franchise Association Pledges a Total $500,000 Donation to Help Employees Affected by Hurricane Harvey

National Franchise Association Creates 501(c)3 Structure to Boost Its $100,000 Donation

SAN DIEGO--()--Jack in the Box National Franchise Association (JIB-NFA) members, owners, and operators nationwide have committed to raise a total of $500,000 including $100,000 already donated to help local employees in Houston recover from the damaging effects of Hurricane Harvey.

“After discussing the plight of many of our employees in Houston, it was an easy decision to make and we knew immediately that we had to help,” said Rabi Viswanath, President, JIB-NFA. “The need is so evident in that area and there seemed to be no one in the position to offer the financial resources that were needed. We quickly agreed that we should and would raise $500,000 in this effort.”

Many Houston based franchises suffered extreme damages and in many cases total loss. This includes just shy of 200 locations in the JIB-NFA network, which represents nearly 5,000 Jack in The Box employees. This led association officials to create the Jack in the Box Franchisee Relief Foundation, a 501c3 structure. Once established, the JIB-NFA leveraged its owners and operators who immediately began donating to the foundation.

“We had already anticipated that there would at some point be a need for the franchise organization to institute a means by which we could raise money to help our employees if needed,” said Clyde Rucker, Director, JIB-NFA. “While the victims of Hurricane Harvey will be the first to use funds from the Franchisee Relief Foundation, we know that with its creation we have developed a vehicle that can be used to assist employees and other groups in the event of future emergency situations.”

“It is our belief that this is the first franchise association of a major restaurant to have its own foundation,” said Reza Khajavi, Chairman, JIB-NFA. “We feel this type of giving will not only help our employees, but will bring all of us closer together as a community and a company, and I think it’s fair to say that its already happening.”
