Roxbury Community College Celebrates the Completion of Substantial Renovations

BOSTON--()--Roxbury Community College (RCC) is pleased to announce a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on October 5, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. The ceremony will be held in the newly-renovated Media Arts Center (Building 1) and will be immediately followed by a reception in Building 3, and tours of the New Health Sciences Building (Building 4). The ceremony will mark the completion of renovations to Building 1, Building 4, and the first floor of Building 3, funded by the MA Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM).

This event will commemorate the first major campus renovations completed in over 30 years. The Media Arts Centers' auditorium now is now equipped with new seats, new carpet, a state-of-the-art sound system, new lighting, and new drapes. The Health Sciences Building (Building 4, formally the Student Center) has been transformed to include new Timothy Smith labs, a mock hospital, a nursing simulation lab, a radiologic technology lab (complete with an on-site X-ray machine), and more. And, the first floor of Building 3 has been completely transformed to include a new student commons, food service area and vastly-expanded bookstore. All of these buildings benefit from a new HVAC system, new bathrooms, and renovated elevators.

All campus renovations will be complete by 2019, at a total cost of $72.5 million.

The keynote speaker is Governor Charlie Baker. Other confirmed speakers include Roxbury Community College President Valerie Roberson and Gerald Chertavian, Chairman of RCC’s Board of Trustees and Founder and CEO of Year Up.

The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony is scheduled to occur during the student activities period, to allow RCC faculty, students and staff to come together to celebrate the start of these significant improvements. The ceremony is also open to the general public.
