Chicago Virtual Charter School Kicks Off 2017-2018 School Year September 5th

Public Charter School Offers Students Blend of Online and In-person Learning

CHICAGO--()--Students and teachers at Chicago Virtual Charter School (CVCS) head back to their online classes on Sept. 5th. A full-time, online public charter school, CVCS is available tuition-free for K-12 students living in Chicago. CVCS blends online learning with in-person engagement, to deliver a high quality education option.

Students become adept at using technology for their online classes and assignments, and once a week attend in-person sessions at the CVCS Learning Center on S. Peoria Street. There, they connect with their peers and meet with teachers about their assignments. CVCS’s innovative model allows teachers and families to work together to tailor an education plan specific to each student’s needs.

“I love teaching at CVCS,” says Jennifer Roberts, a reading interventionist. “With our blended approach, I can customize lessons for our students in our online classroom, and meet with them in-person for any additional support they’re looking for.”

CVCS’s rigorous curriculum includes a full course load in the core subjects of math, science, language arts, history and art, as well as electives, honors and AP® courses in high school. Illinois-certified teachers facilitate live, interactive online classes, and communicate one-on-one with students via phone and email. The online courses, planning and assessment tools are complemented by resources and materials such as textbooks, microscopes, geology samples, art supplies, and more.

The flexibility of the online platform means students can pursue a learning pathway that is right for them. Advanced learners can progress quickly, while those who find concepts more challenging can take the extra time they need. Eligible students in grades 11 and 12 can pursue college credits while in high school, enrolling tuition-free in local community colleges and universities.
