Eco-Friendly Bank Aspiration to Provide Free Movie Tickets to Customers to See “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power”

New initiative is the latest effort that aligns with Aspiration’s mission to “Do Well and Do Good,” embodied by the company’s sustainable banking and investing, charitable giving and pro-consumer fee options

LOS ANGELES--()--Socially conscious and eco-friendly online financial firm Aspiration today announced a partnership with Paramount Pictures and Participant Media’s new film about climate change, “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power,” starring Al Gore. In a unique move for a bank, Aspiration will be providing free movie tickets to all of its customers, who use their Aspiration debit cards to purchase tickets through Fandango. Aspiration customers will be able to see the film in their local theaters and learn more about climate change and how moving their money to sustainable banking and investing can help protect the earth in a post-Paris Climate Accord era.

Aspiration co-founder/CEO Andrei Cherny, who worked with then-Vice President Al Gore as a White House aide in the 1990s, founded the company in 2015 and it has since become one of the fastest growing financial firms in America, adding thousands of new customers every week. Aspiration’s revolutionary “Pay What Is Fair” business model trusts customers to choose the fee they pay, even if it is zero.

“Decades ago, banks would give away free toasters to their customers but, with the climate getting toastier every year, people today should expect more from their financial firm,” said Aspiration co-founder and CEO Andrei Cherny. “Seeing the movie is step one. Step two is moving your money -- Aspiration is leading the charge to help our customers ‘vote with their dollars’ every time they spend and invest. I learned so much about the importance of saving our planet while working with Vice President Gore in the White House 20 years ago. I’m thrilled that we’re able to support his continuing efforts to spread the word about this urgent cause.”

The company recently launched a new Aspiration Impact Measurement (AIM) feature of its mobile banking app that allows customers to see their own personal Sustainability Score and the impact of their spending on people and the planet. Aspiration is also one of the most charitable financial firms in America, donating 10% of its earnings to microloans and mentoring for low-income Americans. Aspiration partners with the Sierra Club and its fossil fuel-free, sustainable investment strategy (available at a minimum investment of $100) is the top performing sustainable investment fund in America over the past year.
