BOONE, N.C.--()--For 40 years, hikers have depended on the trusty “white dots” that mark the way along North Carolina’s Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST), which spans more than 1,175 miles across the state and connects the Great Smoky Mountains to the Outer Banks. This summer, Appalachian Mountain Brewery (AMB), Boone’s beer pioneer, is celebrating the hundreds of volunteers who have helped build the Mountains-to-Sea Trail with a new seasonal, White Dot Session IPA. AMB will donate a portion of all proceeds from sales of the beer to Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, a non-profit that organizes state-wide community support to protect and promote the trail.

Brewed as a collaboration with Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, White Dot Session IPA blends locally grown and malted Riverbend wheat and barley with Galaxy and Citra hops to make a rejuvenating IPA. White Dot Session IPA is available on draught and in cans across North Carolina throughout summer. At 4.8% ABV, White Dot Session IPA is the perfect beer after a beautiful day hiking one of the longest trails in the Appalachian region.

“The Mountain-to-Sea Trail is one of the best ways to discover the diversity and majestic beauty of North Carolina, from the highest peak of the Appalachians, Mount Mitchell, to Jockey’s Ridge State Park, the highest sand dune on the East Coast,” said Nathan Kelischek, Brewmaster and Director of Operations, Appalachian Mountain Brewery. “At AMB, we believe that beer can be the change we want to see in the world, and we’re thrilled to be helping Friends of MST preserve this iconic state treasure with White Dot Session IPA.”

On September 9th, Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail by bringing hundreds of people across North Carolina to each hike a short three-to-five-mile leg of the eighteen segments of the trail, thus collectively hiking the entire trail in a day. Events at the culmination of each segment will feature White Dot Session IPA. MST in a day will be used to generate awareness and support for the ongoing work to preserve and complete the trail, while introducing outdoor enthusiasts to North Carolina’s natural landscape and wildlife. “What a tasty way to toast the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, the beauty of North Carolina and the thousands of volunteers who make the trail what it is today,” said Kate Dixon, Executive Director of Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. “Thanks to AMB for brewing the White Dot Session IPA to celebrate and support our work for the MST.”

Breadcrumbs are hardly the best way to mark a trail through North Carolina’s lush forests and sandy beaches. Instead, for forty years, hikers have depended on the trusty “white dots” to guide their way along the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Spanning over a thousand miles from Clingmans Dome in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains to Jockey’s Ridge on the Outer Banks, the MST winds its way through our state, connecting us all. This session ale ties locally grown and malted Riverbend wheat and barley with Galaxy and Citra hops to make a rejuvenating IPA. White Dot is an ale meant for any occasion – but especially after a beautiful hike on the MST. ABV 4.8% / IBU 42
