Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to Incorporate PASCO Scientific Wireless Sensors, SPARKvue Software, and Teacher Guides with Inquiry-Based Lab Activities in All 87 Middle and High Schools

ROSEVILLE, Calif.--()--After rolling out the Essential Physics blended learning program in 19 high schools in 2016-17, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) will expand its use of technology-based solutions for hands-on science with the addition of Wireless Sensors, SPARKvue® data collection and analysis software, and Teacher Guides from PASCO® Scientific. North Carolina’s second largest district will implement the science solutions this fall in all 87 middle and high schools to create hands-on, inquiry-based learning opportunities in biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental science, and physical science in grades 6–12.

“In our district, there’s a big push toward disciplinary literacy. In science, we don’t just want students to read about science; we want them to read, write, think, and act like scientists,” said Dr. Cynthia T. Rudolph, secondary science specialist for CMS. “With PASCO’s Wireless Sensors and SPARKvue software, our students will be able to conduct inquiry-based labs, collect and analyze data, and make meaning from that. The Teacher Guides will also help our teachers prepare strategic lab experiences that are aligned with our district’s standards and objectives, which will save time and lighten their workload so they can focus on their students.”

CMS will implement PASCO’s Wireless pH, Temperature, Pressure, Voltage, Light, and Force Acceleration Sensors, which are part of the Wireless Middle School Science Standard Bundle, as well as Wireless Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Sensors. PASCO’s award-winning line of Wireless Sensors simplify lab setup and remove the clutter of cables, allowing students to spend more time exploring and perform experiments that were difficult or impossible before.

“PASCO’s wireless technology means that students are no longer limited to the classroom, which will expand their opportunities for participating in hands-on science,” said Rudolph. “Because the Wireless Sensors use BlueTooth® technology, they’re device-agnostic, which is helpful in a district of our size. The sensors are also very affordable and durable, and PASCO’s customer service is exceptional.”
