Washington Virtual Academy to Celebrate Class of 2017

150 Online High School Students to Turn Their Tassels at In-Person Graduation on June 11

TACOMA, Wash.--()--Washington Virtual Academy (WAVA), an accredited online public school, will hold an in-person graduation ceremony on Sunday, June 11, at 2 p.m. at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center.

This spring, 150 high school seniors will graduate from WAVA, which serves students statewide in kindergarten through 12th grade. Honors classes are available for high school students, who can also choose from a wide variety of career and technical electives. In addition, WAVA also offers two programs that allow students to earn college credit while in high school: Running Start offers dual enrollment at local colleges, while Tech Prep offers college-level technology or business courses.

“We’re proud to recognize the hard work and accomplishments of each of our graduates,” said Mark Christiano, head of school at Washington Virtual Academy. “This commencement ceremony not only celebrates their achievements, but the encouragement and support of their families and teachers that helped them reach this milestone.”

Three WAVA students have maintained a 4.0 grade-point average throughout their high school careers and have been named valedictorians of the Class of 2017. Nathan Hager is a Running Start student who earned his Associate of Arts degree from Clark College. He will attend Multnomah University, where he will study theology on a full scholarship. Anastasia Voronina is another Running Start student who earned her associate’s degree through Seattle Central College. She has been accepted to University of Washington, where she will major in business. Finally, Jessica Nacht will attend Grand Canyon University, where she will study healthcare administration.
