US Market Report for Vertebral Compression Fracture 2017: Percutaneous Vertebral Augmentation (PVA) Comprised the Vast Majority of the Market at 88.2% - Research and Markets

DUBLIN--()--Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "US Market Report for Vertebral Compression Fracture 2017 - MedCore" report to their offering.

Percutaneous vertebral augmentation (PVA) comprised the vast majority of the market at 88.2%.

This was a disproportionate share of the market compared to the procedure numbers, as a result of the higher cost of PVA procedures. As prices experience a faster decline in this segment, the PVA market is expected to remain consistent in its share of the total VCF market over the forecast period. The higher growth in the vertebroplasty market will be primarily due to a lower decrease in that market's ASP, as both segments are experiencing positive unit sales growth, with the PVA segment in fact expected to see higher unit sales growth.

While the average selling price (ASP) will experience a steady decline, the procedural and unit sales growth rates will counteract any adverse effects this may have on the market value. The ASP will continue declining as a result of downward pricing pressure in both segments due to competition. Procedure number growth will resume as the industry regains its confidence in the effectiveness of the procedures. Furthermore, the relative simplicity, lower reimbursement scrutiny and lower cost of vertebroplasty will sustain growth over the forecast period.

Despite this recovery, growth rates will not return to levels experienced prior to 2010. Although competitive pricing pressures do exist, the primary factor behind price drops has been a previous decline in procedure numbers. To regain lost revenues and increase sales volume, competitors have adjusted their prices. However, the ASP will remain relatively stable as the vertebroplasty market continues to recover. The vertebroplasty market will continue to grow over the forecast period.
