KB Home Celebrates Family’s Savings Success in Builder’s 100,000th Energy Star® Home

Local team marks sustainable homebuilding milestone and honors Phoenix family that has been enjoying the perks of high efficiency and lower utility bills

PHOENIX--()--KB Home (NYSE: KBH) recently commemorated a significant accomplishment in homebuilding — completing its 100,000th ENERGY STAR certified home — with the Reyes family, who purchased the home in summer 2016 and has seen the benefits of the comfort and savings that are designed into every ENERGY STAR certified KB home.

KB Home’s Phoenix division surprised the Reyes family at their new home in the builder’s La Ventilla community in Goodyear, Arizona with a check for $1,716. This amount represents their home’s estimated annual energy cost savings based on its Energy Performance Guide® (EPG®). Similar to the MPG sticker on new cars, the KB Home EPG is designed to inform prospective homebuyers about the energy efficiency of a KB home relative to a typical new and resale home, and provides an estimated dollar amount for monthly energy costs.

In achieving this important milestone, the 100,000 (and counting) ENERGY STAR certified homes KB Home has built nationwide deliver more than $35 million a year in estimated energy savings for their owners. Additionally, according to estimates provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the 100,000 ENERGY STAR certified KB homes offset the production of more than 3 billion tons of carbon dioxide per year, which is equivalent to removing nearly 43,000 vehicles from the road annually.

“KB Home has a distinguished history within the industry of raising the bar when it comes to sustainable homebuilding,” said Rob McGibney, regional general manager, KB Home Arizona. “Completing our 100,000th ENERGY STAR certified home underscores our commitment to providing long-term value to our homeowners in terms of energy and cost savings.”

The Reyes family had been renting a 1,500-square foot apartment before they purchased their new 2,300-square foot ENERGY STAR certified KB home.

“The savings were immediate,” said Jose Reyes. “Our new KB home is about 700 square feet larger than the home we were renting, so we expected our energy bills to rise. We were pleasantly surprised when the bills came and they were actually lower than what we had been paying when we were renting.”

Situated near Interstate 10, Loop 101, and Loop 303 in Goodyear, AZ, KB Home’s La Ventilla community is ideal for residents who are commuting to downtown Phoenix and the area’s major employers. The floor plans at La Ventilla range from 1,483 to 2,537 square feet, with up to five bedrooms, three baths and two-car garages. The KB homes at La Ventilla are also attractively priced from the high-$100,000s, and the community features a pool.
