Sesame Street and WriteReader Partner to Improve Childhood Literacy

Iconic Sesame Street Characters Launch on WriteReader’s Digital Book-Authoring Platform

NEW YORK & COPENHAGEN--()--WriteReader announced today the addition of Sesame Street characters to its collaborative literacy platform, which seeks to improve children’s reading and writing skills through storytelling. Children can now incorporate characters such as Elmo, Cookie Monster and Big Bird, as they create their own multimedia books and publish them to WriteReader’s online library.

The Sesame Street characters will also be featured in suggested activities and lesson plans, which will focus on friendship and empathy, created in consultation with the Education Team at Sesame Workshop. With the help of these fuzzy and familiar friends, parents and teachers can engage youngsters on important topics to promote kindness in both the digital and non-digital worlds.

“Parents and teachers have long known that children excel when they are interested in the subject matter and are active vs. passive learners. By providing the ability to express themselves with their favorite characters, WriteReader and Sesame Street have created a compelling experience to help strengthen their reading and writing through storytelling,” said Babar Baig, CEO and co-founder, WriteReader.

The launch of Sesame Street characters on WriteReader is the first time the Copenhagen-based edtech company has made third-party content available on its platform. WriteReader has been recognized with numerous honors and awards by industry analysts as well as by parents and educators around the world who have seen their children and students engage in writing – and therefore also improve their reading – with WriteReader.

Sesame Street and WriteReader are closely aligned in their missions to positively impact early literacy skills, making the company’s unique book-authoring platform a natural fit to feature our beloved characters,” said Jennifer A. Perry, Vice President & Publisher, Sesame Workshop. “We’re excited to see Sesame Street content engage a growing number of young learners on WriteReader’s platform, helping them grow smarter, stronger and kinder.”

Parents and educators are invited to register for a WriteReader account at www.writereader.com at no cost. Teachers can easily create and manage online classrooms. WriteReader is a web-based app optimized for the Chrome, Safari, and Microsoft Edge browsers.
