--()--Children’s Health Council:

WHO: Children’s Health Council’s (CHC) IOP fills a critical gap in mental health services between weekly outpatient therapy and hospitalization for high school teens (ages 14-18) struggling with moderate to severe anxiety and depression.

WHAT: This alert updates CHC’s 2/14/17 IOP Press Release to announce the May 8, 2017 start date of Palo Alto’s first IOP, and that CHC is accepting referrals now. Previously, to find a similar level of care, teens had to travel to Mountain View or San Carlos, and a shortage of space could leave teens at risk during a vulnerable time. CHC’s Palo Alto-based IOP adds much-needed capacity as well as local accessibility so teens can continue school and daily routines. The 12-week program will serve up to eight high school teens at a time, ages 14-18, and run for 4 days/week from 3:00-6:15 pm. Admission is rolling: the IOP accepts teens if slots become available prior to the completion of a 12-week cycle.

The IOP features evidence-based interventions: DBT including mindfulness, coping and problem solving skills training, seasoned, licensed clinicians who specialize in working with teens, individual, group and family therapy, adolescent psychiatry and medication management. Physician referral is not required. CHC will work with families to cover the cost of the IOP through insurance or financial aid, as appropriate.

WHY: To provide intensive clinical services, close to home, for teens experiencing significant anxiety and depression who need more support than traditional, weekly outpatient therapy. The goals of the IOP are to help teens realize a life worth living: a significant reduction in symptoms of anxiety and depression; reduction of unsafe thoughts and behaviors; and improvements across all areas of life: academics, friendships, family dynamics, managing emotions and coping with stress.

WHEN: Accepting calls now. First IOP cycle begins May 8, 2017, with rolling admissions.
