EDC Named to Future 40 Responsible Corporate Leaders in Canada by Corporate Knights

Ranked 1st among Financial Institutions

OTTAWA, Ontario--()--Export Development Canada (EDC) has been ranked 8th among Corporate Knights 2017 Future 40 Responsible Corporate Leaders. This is the fourth consecutive year that EDC has been ranked in the top ten of the index.

EDC, Canada’s trade finance agency, was also ranked 1st within the financial institutions category.

“At EDC, we consider good Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices to be vital to our success. It’s also part of our value-proposition,” said Catherine Decarie, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs. “When we approach business with a focus on CSR it can help reduce the risks for all parties involved, and can help make the Canadian businesses we work with more competitive in the global market.”

“Again we find EDC among the top-ranked organizations in this year’s ranking,” said Michael Yow, Director of Research, Corporate Knights. “They are the perfect example of how sustainability and economic performance can work hand-in-hand.”

For the Future 40 designation, Corporate Knights measures publicly disclosed data across 14 sector-specific performance indicators such as health and safety, pay equity, leadership diversity, and innovation. The index includes organizations with revenues of less than $2 billion, or less than 2,000 employees. This year there were a total of 135 organizations considered. Corporate Knights is a research organization recognized globally for its transparent and objective approach to measuring corporate sustainability performance.

“CSR is an integral part of EDC’s culture and we strive to work with companies who share the same corporate goals when assessing the social and environmental impacts of their business,” said Decarie. “Our employees take every opportunity to promote the benefits of CSR to our 7,100 customers, who represent Canada in virtually every corner of the globe. Being included again in this ranking reflects these ongoing efforts, and our philosophy of continuously evolving our practices.”

The Future 40 designation is an indicator of organizations that are on track to be considered within the annual ‘Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada’, a ranking of organizations with annual revenues of more than $2 billion, or more 2,000 employees, also released by Corporate Knights.
