Medical Guardian and National Multiple Sclerosis Society Event Named Philadelphia Business Journal Faces of Philanthropy Honoree

Preakness at the Piazza annual fundraiser has raised over $500,000 to benefit multiple sclerosis research and assistance

PHILADELPHIA--()--Medical Guardian, in partnership with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, has been named a Faces of Philanthropy honoree by the Philadelphia Business Journal for their annual Preakness at the Piazza fundraiser benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of the Greater Delaware Valley. Preakness at the Piazza was established by Medical Guardian founder and CEO Geoff Gross in 2013. The event revolves around the Preakness Stakes in May and has raised over $500,000 to date. Proceeds from the event benefit over 15,000 Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware residents living with multiple sclerosis (MS) in addition to national research.

“After a close friend was diagnosed with MS, I soon realized the disease received very little attention or philanthropic dollars from young professionals,” said Geoff Gross, founder and CEO of Medical Guardian. “Four years ago I launched the first Preakness at the Piazza to generate awareness of MS among the young workforce in Philadelphia and it has since grown into a must-see event in the city. Each year, I am humbled by the amazing turn out at Preakness at the Piazza and look forward to raising over one million dollars to directly help those affected by MS in our region.”

The Preakness at the Piazza attracts 1,500 attendees each year. Known as the “fashion event of the year”, guests typically arrive in their best derby-themed garb. The fifth annual event will take place on Saturday, May 20, at The Piazza in Northern Liberties.

“Events like the Preakness at the Piazza help us get one step closer to a world free of MS,” said Kevin Moffitt, president of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. “Geoff’s commitment to raising funds and awareness for MS is inspiring, and we deeply appreciate the efforts of everyone involved with making the Preakness at the Piazza a success year after year.”

Medical Guardian and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will be recognized at an awards program on Thursday, April 6, hosted by the Philadelphia Business Journal. For more information about Preakness at the Piazza visit: www.preaknessatthepiazza.com.
