BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hours before the House is scheduled to vote on the American Health Care Act, the nine undersigned national patient groups call on members to oppose the legislation as it would decimate key health insurance protections for millions of Americans living with serious and life-threatening conditions. As we have communicated individually and collectively to members of Congress, this bill does not support affordable, adequate, accessible health care coverage for the millions of patients and families we represent.
The American Health Care Act would profoundly reduce coverage for Americans, increase out-of-pocket costs for the sickest and elderly among us, and result in inadequate plans that would fail to meet the needs of people with complex conditions. One particularly egregious new provision of this bill could effectively eliminate protections against annual and lifetime caps--even for the millions of Americans with employer-sponsored insurance--in addition to undermining the guarantee of comprehensive coverage for those who need it. This bill is counter to our core principles that coverage should be affordable, adequate, and accessible.
We, the undersigned groups, fundamentally object to the American Health Care Act moving forward and we call on lawmakers to oppose this damaging legislation.
