TYLER, Texas--()--KP Engineering has been selected to present a technical paper on fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) technology at the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) 2017 Annual Meeting. The event will be held at the Marriott Rivercenter in San Antonio, Texas from Sunday March 19 through Tuesday March 21. The oral presentation will be given by KPE’s Senior VP of Process Engineering, Phillip K Niccum.

Mr. Niccum’s presentation of the paper titled ‘FCC Product Fractionation for Maximum LCO Production,’ describes traditional and alternative FCC product fractionation schemes as means of preventing the loss or degradation of light cycle oil (LCO) from the FCC process. LCO is typically refined further to produce diesel fuel. Co-authors of the paper include William D. McDaniel and Howard S. Pollicoff, both Principal Process Engineers at KPE.

“While most U.S. refineries presently operate their FCC units to maximize the production of high octane gasoline and LPG olefins, now may be the time to prepare for the next upswing in diesel demand,” said Niccum.

With over 37 years of engineering and management experience, Mr. Niccum has been granted 16 patents in the U.S. for his work and has authored dozens of publications for major industry conferences and trade journals on the subject of FCC technology. Mr. Niccum joined KPE in 2015 to strengthen KPE’s process engineering team and to expand the Company’s EPC offerings to include FCCU-related projects.
