BELLEVUE, Wash.--()--Symetra, a national provider of employee benefits, annuities and life insurance, announced that Ben Reavis is the recipient of the company’s seventh-annual CEO Service Award. The award recognizes Symetra employees for exemplary community service. Reavis is a compliance analyst based in the company’s Bellevue, Washington, headquarters.

“‘Swift to Serve’ is one of Symetra’s core values and a spirit that Ben exemplifies through his commitment to community. Whether it’s heading a Symetra Week of Service volunteer project, organizing a fundraising event in support of our annual I CARE employee giving campaign or stocking shelves at a local food bank, Ben’s enthusiasm for giving back is inspiring,” said Symetra CEO Tom Marra, who selected Reavis for the honor.

An active member of the Symetra Service Squad employee volunteer group, Reavis received multiple nominations. Service Squad co-captain Elizabeth Prenger wrote, “Ben is dedicated to serving his community and has inspired me to increase my own volunteerism. He invited me to join him as a volunteer at Ronald McDonald House in Seattle, where he leads a team that makes dinners for residents on a monthly basis. Ben also regularly volunteers at the Issaquah Food Bank, and he is my ‘go-to’ person when I need extra help for Symetra Service Squad volunteer events throughout the year.”

As part of the CEO Service Award, Symetra donates $1,000 to the nonprofit organization of the honoree’s choice. Reavis is directing his award to Houston-based Elijah Rising, which fights human trafficking. “I feel fortunate to be able to contribute my time to several wonderful Puget Sound-area nonprofits, but my involvement with Elijah Rising goes back many years and is close to my heart. They recently opened a residential facility called Kendleton Farms, where women exiting human trafficking can live, heal and acquire the job skills they need to re-enter society. I feel humbled and privileged to be able to help support this much-needed safe haven.”

Commitment to Community

Symetra helps foster its employees’ giving spirit through volunteer time, matching gifts and a commitment to supporting those with a passion for service. Since 2009, the Symetra Week of Service has connected employees with volunteer opportunities in the community. From clearing trails to tutoring students to assembling emergency preparedness kits, employees choose a project they care about and take time out of their work day to volunteer, contributing more than 10,000 Week of Service hours to date. The Symetra Service Squad is an employee force ready to roll up their sleeves and give back. Members meet to share ideas about volunteer opportunities and hear from local nonprofits about ways to get involved. Squad members help organize and recruit employees for Symetra’s signature community events, including the Symetra Week of Service, the I CARE Employee Giving Campaign, cancer walks and annual Adopt-A-Family holiday gift program. These efforts were recognized with a 2015 Community Impact Award from Seattle Business magazine.
