Ulmer & Berne Named “Ohio Firm of the Year” by Benchmark Litigation

CLEVELAND--()--Ulmer & Berne LLP was named the 2017 “Ohio Firm of the Year” by Benchmark Litigation at the annual Benchmark Litigation U.S. Awards in New York City. Winners were chosen based on research conducted for the 2016 edition of Benchmark Litigation, which included interviews with peers and clients.

“We have focused so much on delivering exceptional client service. It is gratifying to see our efforts recognized,” said Scott Kadish, Ulmer’s Managing Partner. “Being named the ‘Ohio Firm of the Year’ is a true honor, and a testament to the quality and work ethic of our litigation department. I’m really proud of our litigation department team.” Michael N. Ungar, Chair of Ulmer’s litigation department, added, “This is the result of a total team effort of 100-plus attorneys, paralegals, and professional staff across all five Ulmer offices in the six discrete practice groups that make up our litigation department.”

The awards are based on six months of in-depth research, including extensive interviews with litigators and corporate counsel for the purpose of identifying the leading litigators and firms in the country. In addition to “Ohio Firm of the Year” honors, seven individual Ulmer litigators were recognized by Benchmark Litigation’s rankings. Michael N. Ungar was ranked in the publication’s “Top 100 Trial Lawyers.” Frances Floriano Goins, Co-Chair of Ulmer’s Financial Services and Securities Litigation and Data Privacy and Information Security Groups, was ranked in the publication’s “Top 250 Women in Litigation.” Jeffrey S. Dunlap (Co-Chair, Business Litigation), Linda E. Maichl, Jeffrey F. Peck (Chair, Product Liability), Frederic X. (Fritz) Shadley (Chair, Construction Litigation), and Joseph P. Thomas (Co-Chair, Litigation Department; Chair, Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical Groups) were all named “State Litigation Stars” by Benchmark Litigation in 2017.

Michael Rafalowich, editor of Benchmark Litigation, writes that Ulmer “has ascended to the position of a Buckeye State powerhouse” in litigation. During the research process, a legal industry peer commented that “[Ulmer has] had an amazing history in the legal community. They’re at the point where we all know that they’ve made it big-time.”

Ulmer’s litigation department is the largest group in the firm. Ulmer’s significant litigation resources, comparable to those of larger firms, are augmented by efficient staffing practices, flexibility, and an unwavering focus on delivering excellent service. The firm’s attorneys appear in state and federal trial and appellate courts throughout the nation, as well as before government and private regulatory bodies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, FINRA, Department of Justice, OSHA, and the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
