Aetna Welcomes PillPack to Preferred Medicare Pharmacy Network

Medicare Members Can Receive Personalized, Presorted Daily Prescriptions at Preferred Copays

HARTFORD, Conn. & SOMERVILLE, Mass.--()--Aetna (NYSE: AET) today announced that PillPack has joined its national network of preferred pharmacies for 2017. Effective now, Aetna Medicare members can fill covered prescriptions through PillPack's full-service mail order pharmacy at preferred pharmacy co-pay levels.

Medicare beneficiaries who take multiple daily medications know how complicated it can be to sort many little pills into required daily doses, especially when pills must be taken at different times of the day. For no additional cost to Aetna Medicare members, PillPack offers a special, personalized service that presorts medications into special daily – even hourly -- packets and eliminates the difficulty and worry of sorting medications. Members can visit pillpack.com to learn more and start using this service.

“We want our members to take the medications their doctors prescribe, and our goal is to make that as easy as possible,” said Nancy Cocozza, president of Aetna Medicare. “This is a customer-friendly, customer-focused service that we are delighted to bring to our members at no additional cost, as part of our preferred network for 2017.”

PillPack offers a range of services to help make filling and managing prescriptions easier. Customers receive a personalized, recyclable dispenser with pre-sorted medication packets, delivered either monthly or bi-weekly. Medications that cannot be placed into packets like liquids, insulin and inhalers are also supported and shipped directly to the member’s door. Shipments are free and include medication labels that explain what each medication is and how it should be taken. PillPack coordinates refills and guarantees the free shipment of all medications on time, every time. Customers can email, call or chat with their PillPack pharmacist any time (24/7) to ask questions or clarify instructions.

"PillPack is designed to make it simple and easy for people to take medications as prescribed, without missing doses or skipping days," said TJ Parker, CEO and co-founder of PillPack, “Aetna members now have a new, convenient way to fill prescriptions and take better control of their day-to-day health."

New and existing members of Aetna’s Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) plans and standalone Part D Prescription Drug Plans (PDP) can now take advantage of the PillPack delivery and service model while paying Aetna’s preferred pricing for prescription drugs. Existing PillPack customers who are Aetna Medicare members will automatically receive these lower co-pays (as low as $1 in some plans) as part of their Aetna benefits.

“Whether Aetna Medicare members participate in a stand-alone PDP plan or a MAPD plan, they can save money by filling their prescriptions at PillPack, or more than 22,000 other preferred pharmacies including Walgreens, Walmart, Kroger, Costco, Albertson’s, Winn Dixie, Safeway and others,” Ms. Cocozza said.
