Blink Health Announces Lilly Insulin Patient Access Program

Starting January 1, diabetes patients who pay retail prices for insulin can directly benefit from a 40 percent discount at nearly every pharmacy nationwide.

NEW YORK--()--Blink Health announced today that it will work with Eli Lilly and Company to offer a 40 percent discount on Lilly insulins, including Humalog, beginning January 1, 2017. Humalog is one of the most widely prescribed branded insulin medications. The Blink Health Insulin Patient Access Program delivers the 40 percent discount directly to patients and will be honored at over 67,000 local pharmacies nationwide.

The first of its kind access program between Lilly and Blink Health will reduce insulin costs for the most vulnerable patient populations: people who pay full retail prices at the pharmacy, such as those who have no insurance or are in the deductible phase of their high deductible insurance plans. The Blink Health Insulin Patient Access Program exemplifies Blink’s mission of leveraging technology to lower the cost of prescription drugs and improve patients’ healthcare experiences. This program represents a paradigm shift in prescription drug pricing. Finally, consumers are getting direct access to discounts historically reserved for insurance companies and large employers.

The Blink Health Insulin Patient Access Program is a manufacturer-funded patient access program made possible by Blink’s technology platform. Blink Health aims to level the playing field for consumers as they face continued increases in out-of-pocket healthcare expenses. “Innovative technology will be key to achieving lower prescription drug prices for everyone,” said Blink Health Vice Chairman Bill Doyle. “This is another powerful example of how Blink Health’s technology can facilitate collaboration between all industry participants to ensure patients can get the medications they need at a price they can afford.”

“When it comes to life saving medications, every dollar of savings counts. We’re proud to be able to collaborate with key partners to offer the Blink Health Insulin Patient Access Program across the country,” said Blink Health CEO and Co-Founder Geoffrey Chaiken. “Patients who purchase Lilly insulins through Blink Health’s mobile app or website will not only get the lowest price available, but they can keep the convenience of picking up at local pharmacies across the country, including major retail chains.”

Blink Health will begin selling Lilly insulins at a 40 percent discounted price on the Blink Health website and mobile app starting January 1, 2017. The program includes all presentations of Humalog® (insulin lispro injection 100 units/mL), all Humulin® U100 formulations (insulin human injection 100 units/mL), and Basaglar® (insulin glargine injection 100 units/mL).

The starting point of the offer will coincide with the new deductible period for many health plans. “As we enter the new year, this is the first of many Patient Access programs that Blink Health will launch to alleviate rising out-of-pocket prescription expenses for all Americans,” said Blink Health COO and Co-Founder Matthew Chaiken.

How does it work?

Everyone can participate in the Blink Health Insulin Patient Access Program via the Blink Health mobile app or website, www.blinkhealth.com, which has no membership fees or monthly premiums. Patients enter the form, dosage and quantity of the Lilly insulin that matches their prescription. The discount will be automatically applied. Payments are made online and the prescriptions can be picked up at virtually any U.S. pharmacy, including: Walgreens, CVS/pharmacy, Target, RiteAid, Safeway and Kroger. People using federal government programs are not eligible. Purchases are fully refundable.

Blink Health will keep the public updated on details of the program through their Facebook and Twitter pages (@BlinkHealth) and other digital channels.
