Premier Inc. Introduces System-Wide Clinician Performance Management Solution

New technology tracks acute and ambulatory clinician performance to compare with peers and national benchmarks, project impact of future reimbursement and identify improvement opportunities

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--()--Premier Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC), a leading healthcare improvement company, introduced an integrated solution allowing providers to track system-wide clinician performance across the care continuum. The Clinician Performance Management solution compares outcomes with peers and national benchmarks to forecast the potential financial impact of future reimbursements and prioritize areas of improvement.

Building on Premier’s hospital-focused physician performance metrics and its qualified clinical data registry, the Clinician Performance Management solution integrates both acute and ambulatory clinician performance data. By consolidating clinician quality and cost performance across the continuum, healthcare providers can project the clinical and financial impact of pertinent federal, state and commercial payment programs, including the Quality Payment Program, in a single solution. Providers can also use the solution to compare outcomes with national and organization-specific benchmarks at the clinician, service line and network levels, as well as obtain continuing education credits for clinicians.

“Premier’s Clinician Performance Management solution is easy to use and allows us to engage clinicians as active participants in the management of quality and financial outcomes,” said Jennifer Glendening, MSN, CPHQ, director of quality at Cooper University Hospital of Camden, N.J., an early user. “We’re able to see how we’re trending toward meeting our benchmarks and how clinician outcomes compare with organizations like us. The solution creates an intuitive, dynamic visualization of clinician performance connecting multiple reporting entities and customized measures for each facility. This is essential for Cooper to make sustainable changes in the way we deliver care across our organization while best managing costs.”

The Clinician Performance Management solution can be tailored to serve multiple user needs. For instance:

  • Clinicians receive a provider-centric, holistic view across care settings and dimensions of performance (quality, cost and efficiency), as well as built-in modules for continuing education certification.
  • Clinician and service line leaders, such as department chairs, practice leaders and particularly clinically integrated network leads, can gain critical, data-driven insight into clinician performance and generate custom integrated performance review targets based on individual specialty.
  • Health system leadership can understand trends across various arrangements, identify system-wide quality and cost improvement opportunities, and make strategic decisions in network alignment and resource allocation.

“Today providers are inundated with gathering outcomes metrics from acute and ambulatory clinicians for reporting required by multiple payment programs,” said Leigh Anderson, chief information officer, Premier. “At the same time, they are challenged with that information being accessible holistically, limiting the ability to analyze total performance in an easy and timely manner. The Clinician Performance Management solution tracks and measures clinician outcomes across the continuum, providing a combined view of network-level performance with the option to drill down to the individual level to further engage clinicians in targeting and prioritizing improvement opportunities.”

Powered by the PremierConnect® performance improvement platform, the Clinician Performance Management solution taps into clinical information from 40 percent of U.S. hospital discharges and is the first to be NCQA eCQM-certified for HEDIS data collection. Additionally, the Clinician Performance Management is offered through the Improvement tier of Premier’s QUEST® 2020 collaborative to further enhance performance by effectively analyzing ambulatory, community and quality data.

The Clinician Performance Management solution is being featured Dec. 5-7 at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s National Forum in booth #321. Attendees have the opportunity to demo the solution and interact with Premier experts to learn more.
