PrismTech Releases White Paper Detailing How DDS Can Enable Tactical Edge Networks for the Next Generation of Intelligent, Mobile and Autonomous Military Systems

White paper describes how speedier and optimal battlefield decision-making can be made using new fog computing and tactical cloudlet technologies

BOSTON--()--PrismTech™, a global leader in software platforms for distributed systems, today announced the availability of a new white paper entitled “DDS at the Tactical Edge”.

A new generation of intelligent, mobile and autonomous military systems need to send, receive and process information when and where it is required, so helping to ensure speedier and optimal mission-critical decision making. To address this need new fog computing and tactical cloudlet technologies are starting to be developed which can enable real-time analytics and other computational functions to be performed at the tactical edge of a military network, right at the data source – for example, soldiers on the battlefield.

PrismTech’s new white paper details how real-time data-centric network edge computing, based on the Object Management Group®'s (OMG®) Data-Distribution Service™ (DDS™) standard, will be key to delivering on the military’s priorities for autonomous systems, increased use of robotics, miniaturization and big data. From the beginning the DDS standard has been designed to support the requirements of the Global Information Grid (GIG) and network centric systems. The white paper describes how powerful DDS capabilities such as automatic discovery and peer-to-peer communications are key to supporting a tactical edge architecture leveraging a network of cloudlets.

The white paper is available for free download from PrismTech’s website at: http://www.prismtech.com/download-documents/1929.
