Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine Finalizes Key Positions and Building Plans

MERIDIAN, Idaho--()--The proposed Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM) announced the finalization of critical leadership and board positions this week as well as releasing renderings of the proposed campus.

The proposed ICOM’s announced faculty positions include three associate deans and three assistant deans. The added faculty include: Rita Getz, PhD, senior associate dean for learner outcomes and assessment; Gregg Lund, DO, MS, FAAP, associate dean for clinical affairs; William “Perry” Baker, PhD; associate dean for academic affairs; Suzanne Frederick, MSN, assistant dean for external affairs; Mattie Bendall, assistant dean for student affairs; and Thomas Fotopoulos, DO, assistant dean for osteopathic integration.

“We are extremely pleased about the incredible leadership team that we have assembled,” said Dr. Robert Hasty, founding dean and chief academic officer. “This all-star team of deans will help to address the physician shortage in Idaho and be a driving force in providing a quality, caring medical education to medical students in the region. I am proud of our momentum.”

Additionally, the proposed ICOM Board of Trustees was finalized, which includes John Goodnow, MHSA, who will serve as the chairman of the board; Dan Burrell, JD; Tracy Farnsworth, EdD, MHSA, MBA and president and CEO of ICOM; Arthur C. Vailas, PhD and president of Idaho State University; Rex Force, Pharm D and vice president for health sciences at Idaho State University; Brent Phillips, MHA, MBA and CEO of Regional Health; and Robert Hasty, DO, FACOI, FACP, ICOM dean and chief academic officer.

ICOM also released preliminary drawings of the proposed campus, designed by architects Dekker/Perich/Sabatini, a firm with experience in designing medical schools. The three-story, 90,000+ square foot building for the proposed ICOM will be on Idaho State University’s Meridian Health Science campus. It will feature leading-edge facilities designed to create a caring and supportive environment for the medical school of the future. Groundbreaking is expected in February.

About the Proposed Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine

The proposed Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM) at Idaho State University will be a freestanding, privately funded, separately licensed and independently operated entity located at ISU’s Health Science Center in Meridian. As part of the collaboration and affiliation agreement with ISU, ICOM has agreed to a long-term land lease for its facility at ISU’s Meridian Health Science Center.

The Proposed Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine, “Applicant Status,” is applying for accreditation and cannot solicit nor accept applications for students until provisional accreditation is achieved.
