EVRAZ North America Applauds the Government of Canada’s Approval of Pipeline Projects Supporting Canadian Jobs and Industry.

CHICAGO--()--EVRAZ North America applauds the Government of Canada’s decisions to approve construction of the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Expansion Project and the Enbridge Line 3 Replacement Program in Canada.

“We appreciate the balanced decision the Government has made and congratulate them on the approval of these pipeline projects. These will be among the most technically advanced and environmentally safe pipelines in the world,” said Conrad Winkler, EVRAZ North America President & CEO. “These projects will be among the largest infrastructure programs in North America, bringing in millions of dollars in tax revenues and contributing billions to the GDP of Canada and the U.S., directly and indirectly”.

There is no better example of supply chain and indirect job impacts than with EVRAZ. As a partner of Enbridge, and the largest producer of steel Large Diameter pipeline-pipe in North America, EVRAZ is proud to say that the vast majority (if not all) of the pipe for the Enbridge Line 3 Replacement Project will be made in Canada by Canadian members of the United Steelworkers union at our Regina, Saskatchewan facility. At this site, we have over 1,000 Canadians with well-paying, highly-skilled middle class jobs.

Making this pipe in Canada also represents the best way to minimize the carbon footprint of the project. Our Regina facility not only makes steel at a fraction of the CO2 emissions of Asian steel producers, it is also the largest recycler of steel scrap in Western Canada and given its proximity to the project also minimizes emissions due to transportation.

Enbridge’s Line 3 Replacement Program and Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Expansion represent an ongoing commitment to safety and efficient pipeline operations. At EVRAZ, we also make Safety our #1 priority, for employees and in our products. We believe that our pipe offers the safest solution in the world, and continues to improve with the application of many advanced processes/technologies. As part of this commitment, we are investing over $220 million U.S. dollars of investments that upgrade the Large Diameter pipe making and steel production capabilities at the Regina site. We also established a Research and Development partnership with Enbridge in March 2015 to share technologies and best practices in pipeline development, with the goal of applying our joint technology in continuing to develop the state-of-the-art in safety.
