Press Ganey Honors Top Performers at 2016 National Client Conference

Innovator of the Year, Physician of the Year, Nurse of the Year and Inaugural Team of the Year Recognized

ORLANDO, Fla.--()--Press Ganey today announced the recipients of its four signature awards: Innovator, Physician, Nurse and Team of the Year, at its 2016 National Client Conference in Orlando.

“The individuals and organizations recognized today represent the innovation and bold leadership our industry needs to advance the delivery of safe, high-quality, reliable care across the continuum,” said Patrick T. Ryan, CEO at Press Ganey. “Press Ganey is honored to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2016 award winners and proud to be a partner to these exceptional organizations in the mission to reduce patient suffering.”

Lloyd H. Dean, President and CEO of Dignity Health, was awarded the Press Ganey Innovator of the Year Award, given annually to a health care Chief Executive Officer who defines compassion and empathy through actions and leadership within their organization. Recipients are selected based on a history of challenging the status quo, driving innovation in health care and advancing care delivery to the benefits of patients and the community. Under Mr. Dean’s leadership, Dignity Health is helping to unleash the healing power of humanity through its groundbreaking movement, Hello humankindness. Through the innovative application of the human-kindness framework across initiatives, Dignity Health has achieved organizational alignment around patient-centered care, employed advanced technology to enhance both the patient and caregiver experience and positively impacted the community.

The Physician of the Year award was presented to Dr. Larry H. Hollier Jr., associate surgeon-in-chief for clinical affairs and chief of plastic surgery at Texas Children's Hospital, and professor and chief of the division of plastic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Hollier is responsible for implementing the novel Meds to Beds discharge medication program, which has dramatically influenced the patient and family experience through enhanced communication and execution. Dr. Hollier has also been instrumental in advancing the hospital’s expertise in caring for patients with a range of complex conditions while simultaneously becoming a leader in outcomes measurement and patient experience.

The Press Ganey Nurse of the Year Award recognizes the contributions of an outstanding direct-care nurse who has demonstrated a commitment to care innovation, transformation and collaboration that supports an exceptional patient experience. For this year’s recipient, June Martin, charge nurse at Newport Hospital-Lifespan Cancer Centers, the scope of the patient experience is broad, and not limited to a single patient experience goal but also includes staff professional development and training as an integral component to the overall patient experience. Over the course of her 41 years at Newport Hospital, Ms. Martin’s leadership and commitment to her patients and peers has significantly influenced efficiency, quality and care outcomes.

The company also presented its inaugural Team of the Year award to Duke Women’s Cancer Care Raleigh. The award will be given annually to a patient care team that has demonstrated outstanding collaboration and coordination in the pursuit of delivering safe, high-quality, compassionate care. This year’s award winners exemplified exceptional teamwork as they developed and brought to life the recently opened women’s cancer care center, transforming it from an outdated, under-regulated and inefficient facility into a comprehensive, one-stop clinic to serve the spectrum of women’s cancer needs.

The Press Ganey National Client Conference draws nearly 3,000 health care executives, physicians, nurses and other professionals from across the country to learn and collaboratively explore paths to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of care. This year’s theme, Transforming Care: The Future In Focus, challenges health care organizations to think innovatively to advance the safety, quality and experience of care across the continuum.
