The Weather Channel Launches Pilot with Consumer Video-Sourcing App uCiC

ATLANTA--()--Snapwise Inc. announced today a pilot with The Weather Channel, an industry leader in weather coverage on cable and satellite TV. The network plans to use Snapwise’s uCiC app platform to source weather videos and photos from across the United States. uCiC adds to the The Weather Channel’s existing set of tools to engage its viewers and ask them to submit videos of how they are affected by severe weather.

The Weather Channel and its affiliated services, The Weather Channel HD, The Weather Channel On Demand, Weatherscan and Local Now, provide local and national weather coverage through regular scheduled programming and live news updates. Meteorologists use direct feeds from satellites, weather stations, and partner organizations to report the latest weather developments.

“Our mission is to provide Americans with accurate and comprehensive coverage of current and forecasted weather events. With uCiC we’re now making it easier than ever for our viewers to share their story on air by sending in videos of how weather events affect their lives and their neighborhood,” said Freddy Flaxman, COO of The Weather Channel.

Snapwise Inc., a Techstars company, is the creator of the uCiC app (pronounced ‘you see I see’). The iPhone and Android app, winner of the 2015 CES Mobile Apps Showdown, allows users to pick any location on the world map and talk to another user present there, using videos, photos and instant messaging. The long distance question-and-answer nature of uCiC interactions means the Weather Channel can instantly reach across its viewership and collect real-time videos of weather across the country.

Harleen Kaur, CEO of Snapwise, believes the collaboration will increase audience engagement for both companies “The human element matters. Empowering The Weather Channel’s large and active audience with the ability to send in videos will generate a rich set of content for both the network and uCiC,” said Kaur.

Snapwise Inc. is an independent app developer and maker of uCiC. uCiC is a mobile app that lets users see any place in the world at the present moment. Users pick a location on the world map, find another uCiC user there, and request a quick photo or video, all in a matter of seconds.
