LOS ANGELES--()--CAPG, the leading professional association representing accountable physician organizations, is pleased to announce that Amy Nguyen Howell, M.D., MBA, FAAFP, chief medical officer, CAPG, has been selected to serve on the 2016–2017 Technical Expert Panel (TEP) for the CMS Quality Measure Development Plan (MDP). The TEP convenes a group of leaders and experts in their fields to provide technical input to the measure contractor on the development, selection and maintenance of measures for which CMS contractors are responsible.

“Maintaining an active practice as a family physician, Dr. Nguyen brings real world experience to this new position,” says Don Crane, CEO and president, CAPG. “This opportunity aligns with the CAPG commitment to improving the quality and value of healthcare, and supporting physician groups that assume responsibility for clinically integrated, comprehensive and coordinated healthcare.”

With the MACRA rule finalized, and CMS recommending that doctors “pick their pace” in the Quality Payment Program, Dr. Nguyen urges accountable physician organizations and ACOs to attend and learn from the pros at the upcoming CAPG symposium, October 27, 2016, in Chicago.

With a decade of managed care experience, Dr. Nguyen also serves as a leader for patient attribution on the Population Based Payment Workgroup, as part of the Healthcare Payment Learning and Action Network (LAN), recommending national guidelines for an effective population based payment model. Additionally, she sits on the steering committee of the Core Quality Measurement Collaborative with AHIP and CMS, setting national score measures in primary and specialty care. Further, she contributes to the Clinical Programs Committee at the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), which provides guidance on provider quality measures and requirements.
