Boosting Digital Trade Support Abroad Helps US Global Competitiveness, Says CTA

ARLINGTON, Va.--()--The following statement is attributed to Sage Chandler, vice president for international trade, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™, regarding Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker’s announcement the Obama Administration will double the number of Digital Attachés stationed abroad:

“The digital economy is key to America’s growth and global competitiveness. In 2014, the United States exported roughly $400 billion in digitally-deliverable services, accounting for more than 50 percent of U.S. services exports and about one-sixth of all U.S. goods and services exports.

“It’s critical the U.S. government push back against policies and regulations set in place by foreign governments that stifle competition, undermine innovation and threaten a free and open internet. CTA applauds the Obama Administration’s focus on eliminating non-tariff barriers for e-commerce and efforts to increase dialogue on behalf of all technology companies. The new Digital Attachés will be welcome advocates for strengthening global policy on the digital economy and internet, and we look forward to working with them in areas such as the Trade in Services Agreement to ensure robust growth for this sector.”
