SAN FRANCISCO--()--Pivotal®, the company accelerating digital transformation for enterprises, today announced that the company will provide its technology and tools for use in the new Carnegie Mellon University Cloud Computing for Business course offered in Heinz College. The students will also use Pivotal Web Services as part of their hands-on cloud technology and programming curriculum at their graduate school. As a result, students will get an idea of what cloud computing is and how the technology is used.

The first course of its kind using Pivotal, Cloud Computing for Business will offer graduate students hands-on cloud technology programming experiences and provide real-world examples of how this technology is being utilized. Cloud Foundry will be a main focus area as the course dives into Platform as a Service (PaaS) enabling rapid and reliable software development.

“As cloud computing promises to improve efficiency and agility, the demands of having expertise in this area from today’s business executives and IT professionals are high,” said Saurabh Gupta, Pivotal Advisory Platform Architect. “This new class will be giving students a chance to develop the fundamental skills that are now necessary in today’s software-driven business world.”

Beyond discussing the implication cloud computing will have on technology development, the class is designed to introduce Carnegie Mellon students to cloud computing’s business impact. Specifically, the business portion will help students understand the drivers, the changing business models and SaaS pricing, augmented by case studies.

“We are very excited to be offering this new course to our students here at Carnegie Mellon University,” said Andy Wasser, Head of the School of Information Systems & Management at Carnegie Mellon University. “Implementing Pivotal Cloud Foundry will enhance our students learning experience and will further their skills in developing cloud-based technology solutions as they enter the workforce.”
