SHARE Atlanta Event Showed Off Top IT Talent and Education

More than 1,100 IT Professionals Gathered for Over 500 Educational Sessions

CHICAGO--()--SHARE® Atlanta attracted more than 1,100 IT professionals during its July 31–August 5 stay at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, Georgia. The event featured over 500 unique educational sessions that mapped to the most critical trends in enterprise computing.

The unique technical education at SHARE Atlanta included new 2016 topic areas “New and Innovative Workloads for z Systems” and “DevOps in the Enterprise,” as well as skills-oriented classes via SHARE Academy and New to z Systems. Individuals learned about the critical role the mainframe holds in the enterprise, how business applications interface with the mainframe, and much more. SHARE also took additional strides to demonstrate its efforts in helping to improve the mainframe skills shortage, and hosted a live Hack-a-Thon in partnership with IBM and Rocket Software. The Hack-a-Thon winner was Tuan M. Hoang, a student at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (Vietnam) and an Open Mainframe Project intern. Hoang was a first-time attendee and wins a San Jose full-week registration as part of his prize.

Two amazing keynotes kicked off the first two days led by Shane Snow, Founder and Chief Creative Officer at Contently, who presented ways that storytelling is an integral facet to successful business practices on Monday, Aug. 1. Randy Frerking and Rich Jackson, technical experts from SHARE Member company Walmart, discussed z/OS and DevOps technology on Tuesday.

“Communication is so critical to what we do... making data consumable and broadly available is essential. Don’t underestimate old-fashioned discussions, because personal conversations are key and lead to more collaboration,” explained Frerking and Jackson during their keynote session.

Also in Atlanta, attendees were able to directly influence the content of a brand-new Redpaper on IDCAMS. A draft of the paper from IBM Redbooks is now available online, titled “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About IDCAMS But Were Afraid to Ask,” featuring acknowledgements of all contributors.
