Immersion Unlocks the Power of Haptic Technology for Mobile Device Manufacturers with the Launch of TouchSense Premium® and TouchSense Lite®

New product family offers OEMs two tiers of haptic implementation solutions to enrich interactive mobile experiences across Android devices

SAN JOSE, Calif.--()--Immersion Corp. (NASDAQ:IMMR), the leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, today announced the launch of TouchSense Premium® and TouchSense Lite®, two new products aimed at providing OEMs more options for implementing Immersion’s TouchSense® technology in Android mobile devices. TouchSense technology enables device manufacturers, app developers and UX designers to design high-quality, power-efficient tactile effects that enhance the user experience for mobile apps and device UI.

Immersion launched TouchSense Premium and TouchSense Lite to address the various business goals and production constraints of device manufacturers, making haptics more accessible and affordable to implement in a wide range of devices. While OEMs designing high-end mobile handsets require high-fidelity effects, many are looking for a more affordable solution to enable high-quality haptic effects for their lower-end devices.

“Mobile phone manufacturers have a range of products from feature rich, premium phones to mid-tier and utility phones. Until now Immersion has offered a high-fidelity, haptic solution primarily used on the most premium phones,” said Todd Whitaker, VP of Product Management and Marketing at Immersion. “With the introduction of TouchSense Lite, we now have an offering that is both lower cost as well as much easier to integrate for mid-tier and utility phone models. In addition, with the introduction of TouchSense Premium, we have added pressure sensing capabilities as a standard capability to our highest fidelity flagship offering. These two products enable phone manufacturers to offer consistent, high-quality haptics across their product lines.”

For high-end mobile devices, TouchSense Premium is the best-in-class solution offering the highest quality haptics available. This solution includes effect customization services and onsite haptics design and software technical support, with HD and multi-actuator options offered as add-on modules. TouchSense Premium will also support Pressure Haptics, an emerging feature in many premium handsets.

For mid- to low-end devices, TouchSense Lite is a turn-key, cost-efficient offering for enabling quality haptics using a pre-designed library of tactile effects. This solution is easier to integrate as it is implemented at a different level of the software stack, and packages predefined built-in effect sets tuned for a range of hardware configurations in the mobile market. Integration recommendations and haptic design best practices are also included in the product package to facilitate implementation.

Whereas projects using TouchSense Lite can be executed almost independently from Immersion, OEMs who choose TouchSense Premium will have the option of working directly with Immersion to achieve optimized haptic experiences through effect customization and UI analysis, hardware tuning and software integration services.
