Resource Environmental Solutions Receives Investment From KKR

Significant Investment to Fuel Growth of Louisiana’s Leader in Ecological Restoration

BATON ROUGE, La.--()--Resource Environmental Solutions, LLC (“RES”), a leader in the ecological solutions market, today announced that global investment firm KKR is making a significant investment in RES to support its next phase of growth and development.

RES is the largest and fastest-growing dedicated provider of ecological solutions in the United States. The company’s environmental conservation and restoration activities include permitting restored wetlands, streams, and species habitats to preserve land, enhance water quality, and protect wildlife for future generations while enabling sustainable growth and development. RES is Louisiana’s leader in ecological habitat restoration, establishment, conservation and enhancement. RES supplies restorative plants and full service, landscape-scale ecological restoration solutions for coastal, barrier island, estuarine and marsh restoration projects. RES is Louisiana’s largest provider of wetland mitigation solutions.

Elliott Bouillion, RES President and CEO and a New Iberia native, commented: “Nine years ago, RES was founded in Louisiana, home to some of the nation's most fragile and valuable wetlands, to supply wetland restoration solutions. Today, as responsible stewards of land and water, we are delivering a full suite of ecological restoration solutions along the Gulf Coast, across Appalachia, the Mid-Atlantic and in the Southeastern U.S., and most recently in the Midwest. We have been working with KKR for approximately 18 months and ultimately concluded that KKR’s resources, expertise, and commitment to our mission make them an ideal partner. Our partnership with KKR allows us to complete our nationwide delivery model and evolve into a global supplier of ecological solutions.”

Since the company’s founding in 2007, several hundred companies across numerous industries, including electric transmission and distribution, renewable energy, commercial developers, industrial plants, auto manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, petrochemicals, and local, state and federal governments, have worked with RES to facilitate their largest, most complex development projects. During that time, RES restored and conserved 155 miles of streams and over 40,000 acres of wetlands in environmentally sensitive habitats. In addition, this month, the company announced the completion of its most recent planting season and a significant milestone, with the planting of its ten millionth restorative tree.

Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., MD, noted: “Elliott Bouillion and RES represent the quintessential Louisiana success story. Beginning from the ground up, this company today supports jobs for Louisiana families and responsible economic development as Louisiana’s largest wetland mitigation provider. In Louisiana, our working coast is a national treasure. I congratulate Elliott and RES for their partnership with KKR and look forward to their continued work supporting our coasts and wildlife across the country.”

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, MD said: “Resource Environmental Solutions (RES) has taken the lead in protecting and restoring America’s natural resources. Founded in Louisiana, RES understands firsthand how critical coastal restoration is in protecting families against storm surge. Their partnership with a global company like KKR will allow them to continue doing good work restoring wetlands and preserving land areas across the nation.”

Don Pierson, Secretary, Louisiana Economic Development commented, "Louisiana Economic Development welcomes KKR into Louisiana via its investment of Resource Environmental Solutions. RES has been a great partner and model corporate citizen in Louisiana, with the generous donations of trees, it's statewide support of expansions and job creation, and a demonstrated willingness to assist our State's mission of economic growth by providing restoration and mitigation solutions for new and expanding businesses. Without question this is a critical resource. The addition of a global capital company like KKR will allow RES, and thus Louisiana, to serve as a leading national ecological impacts solution provider."

KKR is making the investment from its eleventh Americas Private Equity investment fund. The investment will become part of KKR's Green Solutions Platform, which supports environmental initiatives at KKR portfolio companies across three areas: eco-efficiency, eco-innovation, and/or eco-solutions. Financial details for the transaction were not disclosed.
