PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PetSmart Inc. today announced that it has opened 12 net new stores in the U.S. and Canada for the quarter ending May 1, 2016. PetSmart’s continued expansion of its store footprint in key markets in the U.S. and Canada is part of its long-term growth strategy and will further strengthen its position as the largest specialty pet retailer in North America.
The company opened 50 net new stores in 2015 and expects to open approximately 80 net new stores in fiscal year 2016.
New stores were opened in the first quarter in the following locations:
- Albertville, Alabama
- Tempe, Arizona
- El Centro, California
- Goleta, California
- Van Nuys, California
- Lafayette, Louisiana
- Scarborough, Maine
- Marlboro, New Jersey
- Oshkosh, Wisconsin
- Colombia, South Carolina
- Sevierville, Tennessee
- Georgetown, Ontario, Canada
The new stores average over 12,000 square feet with service offerings such as grooming and pet training.

PetSmart recently strengthened its real estate team with the promotion of Ryan O’Sullivan to vice president of real estate and the addition of Ryan Hill as a vice president of real estate and development.
