Stanford Health Care to Serve as Medical Services Provider at 2016 U.S. Women’s Open

World-class Stanford medical staff to provide on-site first aid and health services support for athletes and fans at premier women’s golf event

STANFORD, Calif.--()--Stanford Health Care today announced its role as the medical services provider for the 71st U.S. Women’s Open Championship, set to take place July 4-10, at CordeValle in San Martin, Calif., just south of San Jose. Scores of sports enthusiasts are expected to attend the event, which is the most prestigious women’s golf championship in the world.

“Stanford Health Care is honored to be the medical services provider for the championship,” said Sam Shen, Medical Director for the Stanford Health Care Emergency Department. “We look forward to being on-site to care for any medical needs that arise, and to share health and wellness information with people attending the event.”

Stanford Health Care medical staff will provide first-aid care to all athletes, spectators, officials and volunteers. In addition, Stanford Health Care will host a Wellness Pavilion, where people can receive golf mobility screenings from Stanford University’s athletic trainers, compete in a putting competition or cool down in a lounge area with couches and TVs.

“Stanford Health Care is well known throughout the Bay Area and the country for providing world-class care, and we are thrilled to have them as our partners for the championship,” said U.S. Women’s Open Championship Director Brian Flajole.

This is the first time the U.S. Women’s Open will be held in California in more than 30 years. Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who is a professor at Stanford, serves as honorary chair for the championship. Single and multiple day tickets are available, and adult and junior volunteers are still needed to fill a variety of roles during the championship.
