PLANO, Texas--()--Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) today announced recipients of its 2016 Tyler Public Sector Excellence Awards for iasWorld® and Orion™ appraisal and tax administration software.

The winning jurisdictions were the Cobb County Tax Commissioner’s Office in Georgia and the Lubbock Central Appraisal District in Texas.

Tyler’s Excellence Awards recognize organizations that deploy Tyler software in novel and impactful ways that can establish new best practices for other jurisdictions.

Award submissions were evaluated by a panel of Tyler leadership and entries were judged on business value, maturity, innovation and relevance to other public sector organizations. Additional criteria met by award winners include:

  • Creating a unique process that utilizes a Tyler application
  • Realizing significant savings after implementing a Tyler product
  • Increasing staff productivity by implementing a Tyler product
  • Empowering employees, citizens or vendors

Georgia’s Cobb County Tax Commissioner’s Office was awarded for using functionality from Tyler’s iasWorld software to conduct its monthly sale of tax-delinquent properties. This innovative use of Tyler software significantly streamlined the auction preparation and execution processes while also eliminating common hurdles, such as internet connectivity issues and human error caused by rekeying auction information after the property sale. Now, the sales process runs more smoothly and revenue is available to reinvest into the community more quickly and efficiently.

The Lubbock Central Appraisal District was recognized for creating a new property valuation method that’s more accurate than traditional methods. Valuation models were created using the multiple regression analysis (MRA) feature within Tyler’s Orion Appraisal™ computer-assisted mass appraisal software solution. All models were generated completely within the Orion software, without any need to import data from or export data to third-party software. After testing multiple models, a new valuation method was created. A key element of this new method was the generation of detailed, itemized values, based on current market values, for home features, such as pools, basements and unique living areas, and any unique geographic characteristics. This new method has made it considerably easier for district appraisers to explain and defend property values to both taxpayers and the Appraisal Review Board. Equally important, property owners now know that their residences are being appraised fairly and equitably.

“Ultimately, our appraisal and tax solutions are designed to empower local jurisdictions to serve their constituents better and more efficiently,” said Andrew D. Teed, president of Tyler’s Appraisal & Tax Division. “Both the Lubbock Central Appraisal District and the Cobb County Tax Commissioner’s Office truly exemplified what that means. We’re honored to select them as this year’s Tyler Excellence Award winners.”
