Quanta and ImmerVision World’s First VR Camera for Smart Phones Enables 360 Immersive Capture and Live Streaming at Computex

TAIPEI, Taiwan--()--Today, Quanta Computers, a leading global electronics ODM and the world's largest Notebook PC manufacturer, together with ImmerVision, the inventor of the 360-degree panomorph lens and worldwide expert in immersive optical and imaging technology announce the launch of the world’s first 360-degree live VR streaming add-on camera, designed for the ever-burgeoning smart phone market.

“We are honored and excited that Quanta, with its longstanding expertise in the international consumer electronics space, chose ImmerVision panomorph technology to create the very first VR add-on 360ᵒ camera for mobile devices,” says Alessandro Gasparini, Executive Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer at ImmerVision.

Our goal is to offer brand customers and millions of smart phone users around the world unprecedented access to the most advanced panomorph lens technology, giving them the ability to create, share and experience crystal clear, high definition 360-views of their day-to-day experiences.”

Quanta’s new 360 VR camera certified ImmerVision Enables 2.0 fits into the palm of the hand and can be effortlessly attached to any smartphone, thanks to its magnetic back.

The surround-sight device also comes equipped with the latest high resolution 360ᵒ x 187ᵒ panomorph lens, 16Mpx Sony Exmor-HDR sensor, microphone, USB port, and onboard storage, giving users the choice to live stream vibrant immersive content instantly over Wi-Fi or record and share it later, on any software platform.

Designed for versatility, Quanta’s new 360 VR camera add-on, which also employs ImmerVision’s Digital FoV Video Stabilization, also acts as a stand-alone high resolution 360 camera that can be clipped onto a jacket or helmet, becoming a wearable immersive action camera, for real-time panoramic views of heart-stopping plays on your local soccer field or cinematic pans of the setting sun taken during your evening bike ride.

The light-weight 360 VR camera can also be used as a home or personal surveillance camera, helping parents ensure that their children arrive home safely from school or that grandparents are well cared for. Drone aficionados can also conveniently use the 360 VR camera to share or record startlingly crisp immersive images and videos of local events, such as parades and festivals—from any angle and viewed with no distortion at the edges.

Quanta and ImmerVision will be demonstrating the adaptable new 360 VR camera at Computex in Hall 3, Booth G0232 from May 31 to June 4.

“Thanks to their high-resolution super wide-angle panomorph lens and advanced dewarping algorithms, ImmerVision’s optical technology was the go-to choice for our new 360 VR camera add-on. We are very proud to be able to provide to end users, through our strong global partners, with an accessible, yet sophisticated, 360 VR camera that they can use to capture, share and fully enjoy life’s special moments. We are excited to be catalyzing widespread VR content capture and sharing,” said Ted Chang, Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Quanta Computer.
