First Command Sponsors World Famous Mud Run at Camp Pendleton

FORT WORTH, Texas--()--First Command Financial Services, Inc. is proud to once again sponsor the World Famous Mud Run at Camp Pendleton.

Thousands of participants are expected to compete in this year’s event on June 3-5. Held every year since 1993 to support quality-of-life programs for the Marines and sailors at Camp Pendleton, the Mud Run gives participants the chance to compete in a 10k, 5k or children’s 1k obstacle course, where they must endure mud tunnels, low crawls, a Guadalcanal bridge and more to reach the finish line. There, participants will face the 100 foot mud pit that helped the Mud Run earn its title of the “world’s dirtiest event.”

“First Command is honored to partner with the Marine Corps again this year as a proud sponsor of the World Famous Mud Run at Camp Pendleton,” said Scott Spiker, CEO of First Command. “We have a long history of supporting military athletic events and other programs that matter to America’s career military. We strive to serve our men and women in uniform at all aspects of their lives, and we look forward to seeing them have a good time at this year’s Mud Run.”

First Command Financial Advisors and employees will join in the fun at First Command’s New Military Retirement Rally Point. Here, they will invite Mud Run participants to test their strength in fitness challenges, have pre-and-post-race pictures taken at the photo booth and enter prize drawings. Also, Advisors will be prepared to answer questions about the new military retirement system that goes into effect in 2018.

“Career military families are still trying to sort out how the recent overhaul of the military retirement system may affect their financial futures,” Spiker said. “The new military retirement reduces the size of the traditional 20-year pension, cutting monthly retired pay by 20 percent. To be successful, those in the new retirement system will have to take more responsibility and make the right decisions at every stage. Our Financial Advisors are well equipped to help career military families understand the changes and prepare to make the right financial decisions now and when the transition occurs.”
