Jhana Launches Content and Research Division to Pioneer Original Insights on Management Effectiveness

Company Hires Loren Mooney as Director of Content and Research

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Jhana, the fastest-growing online resource for first-level managers, today announced the launch of its new Content and Research Division, to be headed by longtime publishing executive and editor, Loren Mooney. Jhana will use this new group to extend its original research into the learning patterns and needs of first-level managers—one of the most important, least-understood demographics in the modern workforce.

Leading the charge, Loren Mooney has over 20 years of experience in the content and publishing industry and has held senior editorial roles at nationally recognized publications such as Reader’s Digest and Stanford's Graduate School of Business.

“In today’s messy, fast-paced workplace, learning needs have shifted from being primarily course-based and HR-driven to being bite-sized and learner-driven,” said Mooney. “It’s exciting to know that the work produced by our team will enable HR organizations worldwide to better meet the needs of first-level managers and to attract and retain the best talent out there.”

Jhana’s in-house content and research team invests an average of 700 hours to develop each topic it covers and currently reaches tens of thousands of managers, in 25 countries and counting.

Also joining the team under Mooney:

  • Senior researcher and ethnographer, Brian Veazey holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of California Davis where he taught courses in the sociology of work and employment as well as ethnographic methods.
  • Senior writer and researcher, Alex O’Conner holds a PhD in social and personality psychology from UC Berkeley.
  • Senior writer and researcher, Heidi Basarab holds a Master of Arts from Colorado State University, where she taught introductory composition and creative writing.
  • Assistant researcher, Joy Harvell holds a Master of Sociology from the University of Akron, Ohio.

The team currently is conducting research into topics such as setting team goals, working remotely and understanding the day-to-day struggles of first-level managers.

“We believe that everyone deserves a great manager,” said Rob Cahill, co-founder and CEO, Jhana. “At Jhana, our goal is to understand first-level managers better than anyone in the world because they truly are the linchpins in an organization. With our Content and Research team leading the way, we’re already helping companies reap the many rewards of effective managers. More importantly, we’re one step closer to achieving our mission: give millions of employees the great manager they deserve.”
