Denver-Based Facial Aesthetics Supports American Melanoma Month

Donates portion of sunscreen sale proceeds during May to raise awareness for melanoma prevention

DENVER--()--The shadier side of Denver’s 300 plus days of mile-high sunshine is the increased risk of melanoma – the deadliest form of skin cancer – that area residents face. The annual rate of new melanoma diagnoses in Colorado is 15 percent higher than the national average, according to the latest statistics from the National Cancer Institute and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Prevention is the key word to remember during Melanoma Awareness Month, and throughout May Facial Aesthetics is donating a portion of the proceeds from its sunscreen sales to the American Melanoma Foundation to help boost skin cancer awareness.

“The gold standard for skin cancer prevention starts at home, and it starts early with a good skin care routine and sunscreen,” said Facial Aesthetics President and Founder Pamela Hill, R.N. “So choose wisely and enjoy our sunny, mild, mile-high weather.”

Colorado’s high altitude, more intense UV exposure and high level of outdoor activity can still make prevention a challenge. The professionals at Facial Aesthetics understand the foundations of good skin care and routinely treat patients with sun-damaged skin. If sun damage has already occurred, available treatment options such as chemical peels, SkinPen® microneedling, IPL photofacials and laser resurfacing can be used to help repair the skin.

With another Colorado summer approaching, Facial Aesthetics offers these simple tips for reducing the risk of over-exposure to the sun’s potentially damaging effects:

  • Make sunscreen a daily habit; it can help prevent sun damage and lower the risk of skin cancer and melanoma. Dermatologists recommend a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 for daily care.
  • Wear hats, which are important for protecting the forehead, shielding the eyes from the worst of the sun’s effects and preventing squinting
  • Use skin care products with ingredients such as retinol, peptides and antioxidants that can help fight wrinkles and improve the skin’s overall appearance
