EH&S INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AWARD WINNERS FOR 2016 ANNOUNCED BY INDEPENDENT RESEARCH FIRM VERDANTIX

Independent research firm Verdantix announced the eight winners of the inaugural EH&S Information Management Awards at the Verdantix Summit 2016: Getting Value from EH&S Information Management in Chicago where more than 200 delegates gathered to share best practices on how to improve EH&S processes, systems and metrics through digital transformation. Awards honor both the organizations who implement projects as well as their software and services suppliers.

Archer Daniels Midland, the $81 billion revenue food processing and commodities firm, won in the food and agriculture category for Project GEMINI, a global environmental management information system. CH2M and IHS are joint recipients of this award.

Smith & Nephew, the $4.6 billion revenue British medical equipment firm, won in the healthcare category for the development of a new integrated safety and incident management system which has significantly improved incident metrics. The software supplier for this project was Intelex.

Harley-Davidson won in the manufacturing category for its SHIELD project which provides a broad array of functionality for safety performance measurement and has improved injury/illness reporting, investigation, and corrective action processes. ProcessMAP was the technology provider.

Keller Group, the ground engineer specialist with more than 10,000 employees, won in the mining category for the successful implementation of its ThinkSafe project. Benefits include a 50% reduction in catastrophic rig failures, and a 78% reduction in accident frequency rate. Rivo Software is a joint recipient of this award.

Repsol, a global energy firm based in Madrid with 24,000 employees, won in the oil and gas category for the EMISphere project which automated 99% of EH&S compliance tasks and reduced processing time for annual air and water emissions data from 3 months to 3 weeks. IHS was the strategic partner.

Southern California Edison won in the utilities category for the implementation of the EHSync project, designed to synchronize the firm’s EH&S workflow with business operations. The functionality significantly enhanced permit management and improved incident reporting with a 300% increase in the number of close calls submitted. Key suppliers were Arcadis, SAP, and Training Systems Design.

In the public sector category, Roanoke, a city of 97,032 people in the state of Virginia, won for their comprehensive asbestos data management system which saved staff time and reduced building occupant exposure risks. Key suppliers were Verdant Web Technologies, PBS Engineering and Environmental Inc.

The Cleveland Clinic won in the hospitals and universities category for the implementation of a user-friendly dashboard for hospital leadership called The Resilient Hospital Dashboard. The new system focuses on energy efficiency, climate change, and health impacts. Four Twenty Seven and Tableau were the key suppliers.

“As EH&S leaders increasingly understand how information management systems can help them improve performance and reduce risk they are much more willing to embark on digital transformation projects” commented David Metcalfe, Verdantix CEO. “Our judging panel felt that the award winners were the stand out projects and they also recognize the achievements of finalists Vigon International with 3E, Svitzer with CMO Software, and Electricity Supply Board with Scannell Solutions.”

The EH&S Information Management Awards are free to participate in and are administered by Verdantix. Organizations seeking an award are required to complete a questionnaire about the project, the business results achieved, and strategic suppliers involved. From this list of nominees, finalists were selected and category winners were voted on by an independent judging panel consisting of Jim Bollenbacher, Arlene Farrar, Alex Milley, and Rodolphe d’Arjuzon.
