Ethernet Alliance Hosts IEEE 802.3 Interim Meeting for Fifth Year in a Row

Annual gathering features reception celebrating Ethernet Alliance’s 10 years of Ethernet industry advocacy, education, and leadership

BEAVERTON, Ore.--()--The Ethernet Alliance, a global consortium dedicated to the continued success and advancement of Ethernet technologies, today announced it is hosting the next IEEE 802.3™ Interim Meeting. Scheduled for May 23 – 27, 2016, at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. In addition to addressing a bevy of IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standards projects, the meeting will see the launch of two new task forces, as well as a YANG data models study group. Now in its fifth consecutive year as host of IEEE 802’s Interim sessions, the 2016 meeting also includes an evening social honoring the Ethernet Alliance’s 10th anniversary.

“2016 marks an important point in Ethernet’s history and timeline – we’ve seen not just sustained levels of interest and activity, but a dramatic increase in the energy surrounding Ethernet. It has led to the continuing diversification and expansion of the Ethernet ecosystem, driving new innovations, and resulting in a broad range of new projects,” said John D’Ambrosia, chairman, Ethernet Alliance; and senior principal engineer, Huawei. “Ethernet has evolved during the past decade, and we’ve evolved along with it to support both our members and the industry at large. From supporting standards-related activities through our interoperability demos, plugfests, and market education, to acting as a strong industry advocate for our members, the Ethernet Alliance has built a recognized 10-year history of Ethernet excellence. We are thrilled to be able to celebrate this momentous occasion while we play host to the IEEE 802.3 Interim Meeting.”

Among items to be taken up during the IEEE 802.3 Interim Meeting are projects ranging from 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) to 400GbE; the emergence of new task forces addressing 50GbE and 200GbE; new PHYs leveraging the latest technologies; Power over Ethernet (PoE) and Power over Data Line (PoDL); and more. Additionally, the Ethernet Alliance is hosting a 10th Anniversary reception celebrating its critical role as a leading source of news, expertise, and technology guidance, and commemorating accomplishments such as developing and publishing the industry’s only Ethernet roadmap.
