Scott Smith is not only an activist and Chief Technology Officer and Investigator with Water Defense, but he is also considered an international expert in water contamination, crisis management and complete water filtration systems for the oil and gas industry. Through Water Defense, the not for profit organization founded by celebrity actor and activist Mark Ruffalo, Scott has been on-site and leading cleaning efforts for numerous water related disasters ranging from BP’s Gulf oil spill in 2010 to the Animas River Spill in 2015 and now directly supporting community efforts for Water Defense in Flint, Michigan. He has assisted in over 60 disaster management scenarios around the world by developing a comprehensive testing in his work with Water Defense method that accurately pinpoints what is really in the water and associated toxicity levels as well as outlining and managing methods for oil spill disaster water purification.
