The Journal of Structured Finance Launches Its Spring 2016 Issue, Dedicated to Residential Mortgages and MBS

Featuring articles from industry leaders at the Urban Institute, Fannie Mae, Andrew Davidson & Co., and NewOak Capital

NEW YORK--()--Institutional Investor Journals, the leading publisher of practical research in investment management and finance, is pleased to announce the release of the spring 2016 issue of The Journal of Structured Finance, which is dedicated to residential mortgages and securities. The issue features articles from distinguished industry practitioners, including Laurie S. Goodman, director of the Housing Finance Policy Center at the Urban Institute; Douglas Duncan, chief economist at Fannie Mae; Andrew Davidson, president of Andrew Davidson & Co.; and Ron D’Vari, CEO at NewOak Capital.

"I'm doubly pleased with the issue," said Mark Adelson, editor of The Journal of Structured Finance. "First because the whole issue is devoted to residential mortgages, which are the largest asset class on the structured finance landscape, and second because it features articles by such a distinguished group of authors."

Each article in the spring issue looks at topics related to residential mortgages and securities backed by them, highlighting the continuing role of securitization in the U.S. housing finance system. Articles in the spring issue include:

  • “The Rebirth of Securitization: Where Is the Private-Label Mortgage Market?” by Laurie S. Goodman leads the issue with an analysis of what it will take to revive the private-label mortgage-backed securities (MBS) market.
  • “The ‘New’ Housing and Mortgage Market” by Douglas Duncan discusses the primary mortgage market and how it is being shaped by both demographic factors and post-crisis policy forces.
  • “What Lies Ahead: The Challenges of Securitizing Non-Qualifying Mortgage Loans” by Ron D’Vari and Timothy Bernstein reviews the challenges of securitizing non-QM loans, which fall outside the CFPB definition of a qualifying mortgage.

“We are seeing a catch-22 in the market today, whereby the demand for non-qualifying mortgage loans is healthy, yet the elaborate steps involved in securitizing these loans combined with post-crash policies has kept volumes subdued,” said D’Vari. “I’m honored to be part of the journal's spring issue, which is casting a light on the American residential financing industry at a pivotal moment in its history.”
