Marqeta Recognized as a 2016 Bay Area Best Place to Work

EMERYVILLE, Calif.--()--Marqeta has been recognized as a winner of the 2016 Bay Area Best Places to Work, an award program presented by the San Francisco Business Times and the Silicon Valley Business Journal.

The best employers in the Bay Area will be honored at a reception held on April 19, 2016 for creating exceptional workplaces for their valued employees. The winners received high marks from Bay Area employees for fun, collaborative culture, competitive compensation and benefits programs and effective management practices.

Marqeta’s unique culture stems from founder and CEO, Jason Gardner’s vision. Jason’s passion is emphasizing innovation, fresh ideas, efficient delivery, and a strong focus on staying ahead of the payments industry curve. Innovation continues to resonate throughout the company and is a differentiator for Marqeta in the payments space.

“Marqeta’s groundbreaking technology, exceptional talent and commitment to supporting and developing our team is what attracts the best people to work with us. In the Bay Area’s ultra competitive talent market, it’s essential to recognize, reward and retain the best talent,” said Gardner. “We are delighted to be named one of the ‘Best Places to Work’ and we’ll continue to focus on our people so we remain a truly compelling company as we grow.”

Marqeta recently hired Penny DeFrank for the newly created role of Vice President of People to lead the company’s people and organizational strategies and attract top talent. DeFrank brings an operational approach to shaping human resources and culture programs aimed at enhancing the company’s value proposition to its team members who, in turn, directly drive the success of the business. Penny has enjoyed a diverse career across financial services, professional services, e-commerce and technology, with a long early career stint at CIGNA followed by ten years at McKinsey & Company, where she led all non-consulting operations across the 4 West Coast offices. Penny then enjoyed constructing the HR function at 3 early stage, VC backed technology firms and, most recently, spent time at digital banking technology company Monitise, Inc.

“The most competent talent in the market are drawn to Marqeta because they want to be a part of something truly unique: redefining the payments industry. You can’t do that anywhere except Marqeta,” said DeFrank. “What attracted me to Marqeta was the caliber of the talent here and the fact that our employees feel both inspired by the superiority of our technology and genuinely rewarded by the work they do each day. I look forward to being a part of such an aligned and motivated team and, of course, ensuring Marqeta continues to be a great place to work.”
