SHELTON, Conn.--()--In Summer 2015, William Raveis Real Estate, Mortgage & Insurance hosted their first annual fundraising event to benefit the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. The Raveis Ride + Walk raised over $500,000 for cancer research.

The William Raveis Charitable Fund created a Fellowship Award with the proceeds from last year’s event. The fellowship was awarded to two very deserving cancer research scientists identified by Damon Runyon. The Charitable Fund is looking to have an even bigger impact and fund more Damon Runyon cancer researchers in 2016.

“We are so honored and proud to be able to fund two brilliant cancer researchers for four years with the money we raised at the events,” said Meghan Raveis, Managing Director of the William Raveis Charitable Fund. “This fellowship is just a drop in the bucket toward this global effort of finding a cure for cancer. We are excited and optimistic about our potential to have an even bigger impact this year.”

January 2015 marked the beginning of William Raveis Real Estate’s partnership with the prestigious Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation and the commitment to their goal of finding cures for all forms of cancer. Damon Runyon identifies the brightest early-career scientists with innovative research ideas and provides them with funding to pursue new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat all forms of cancer. Damon Runyon promises that 100% of the donations they receive will go directly to cancer research.

“We are thrilled to continue our important collaboration with the William Raveis Charitable Fund to identify and support some of today’s best young scientists with funding to pursue innovative cancer research,” said Lorraine Egan, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. “We are deeply thankful to the Charitable Fund and the entire community of supporters who so generously contribute to our important mission through the Ride + Walk events.”

The Charitable Fund has officially announced the dates for this year’s events. The Ride + Walk events will be held October 1, 2016 at Derby Academy in Hingham, MA and October 16, 2016 at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk, CT. In addition, the William Raveis Charitable Fund launched a new peer-to-peer fundraising site, www.RaveisRideWalk.com, in which participants can contribute to the cause.

The family and community events will feature picturesque bike rides and walks through the iconic coastlines of both locations. Participants can choose between a 25-Mile Ride, 12-Mile Ride and 5K Walk to show their support for cancer research. The post-event festival will include food, entertainment and a children’s 100-yard dash.

Although the events are not set to take place until October of this year, supporters are encouraged to visit the William Raveis Charitable Fund’s new site, www.RaveisRideWalk.com. The site is full of tips and tools aimed at facilitating the fundraising process for participants. By providing tools for social media sharing and a unique platform to consolidate various forms of communication, raising money for cancer research has never been simpler.

Providing funding for cancer research is an imperative step in ensuring that future generations live in a world free of cancer. William Raveis asks for your support in making this dream a reality.
