Blank Rome Adds Tax Pro in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON--()--Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that Cynthia L. Gausvik has joined the Firm as a Partner in the Tax, Benefits, and Private Client group. Ms. Gausvik advises families and closely held business owners on a broad range of tax, trust, and estate planning matters. She comes to Blank Rome from Reed Smith and is based in the Firm’s Washington, D.C., office, which recently welcomed more than 90 attorneys from Dickstein Shapiro.

“The Firm’s recent expansion in Washington, D.C., presents a number of opportunities for cross-practice collaboration that will elevate our client service to new heights, and we are confident that Cynthia will further enhance our efforts in this regard,” said Alan J. Hoffman, Chairman and Managing Partner. “Cynthia’s breadth of experience across a wide variety of industries will further strengthen our Tax, Benefits, and Private Client group.”

Ms. Gausvik counsels high-net worth families and closely held business owners working in a wide range of areas, including real estate development, technology startups, and professional sports. She counsels clients on estate, gift, and generation-skipping tax planning, as well as with structuring business entities and creating business succession plans. Ms. Gausvik regularly applies innovative planning techniques to strategically manage her clients’ assets, including generation-skipping and perpetual dynasty trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, charitable trusts, and family-limited partnerships.

“Business owners and families alike face an ever-evolving tax code that can be immensely challenging to navigate,” said Lawrence S. Chane, Chair of the Firm’s Tax, Benefits, and Private Client group. “With more than 20 years of experience, Cynthia is a trusted advisor in this area of law, with experience across a range of important industries—we’re incredibly excited to have her on board.”

In addition to her work with families and closely held business owners, Ms. Gausvik counsels executives and high-compensation employees of public companies on the transfer tax implications of stock options, as well as other compensation incentives. She also advises on probate administration and the implementation of revocable living trusts, wills, and irrevocable life insurance trusts.

“Blank Rome provides an ideal platform for my practice and clients, particularly following the recent expansion of the Firm’s government contracts and M&A practices in D.C.,” said Ms. Gausvik. “I look forward to working with Michael Sanders, a former colleague of mine, and all of the talented professionals at Blank Rome.”

Ms. Gausvik received her LL.M. from the Georgetown University Law Center, her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law, and her B.A. from the University of Virginia. An active member in the local community, Ms. Gausvik serves on the University of Virginia’s gift planning counsel and frequently performs pro bono work for local nonprofits and charities looking to establish and maintain their tax-exempt status.
