Text Less, Do More: Cola Launches in the iOS App Store

World’s first Messaging OS brings interactive functionality directly into the text stream with “Cola Bubbles”

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Cola, the world’s first texting platform that brings app-like functionality to text via interactive ‘Bubbles’, today launched its iPhone app in the App Store. After a successful beta program, the Cola team of Silicon Valley veterans released its app to the general public, advancing messaging beyond simple text, links, and pictures.

Cola is a “Messaging OS” that allows third-party developers to expand the range of bubbles within the Cola app. The company’s mission is to make texting more actionable and efficient, providing access to the full functionality of your smartphone without ever leaving the conversation.

“The motto of our company is ‘text less, do more’ because we know all too well the pain of trying to do one simple thing with text, and having it turn into an endless process of app hopping, back and forth suggestions, questions, and time-wasting nonsense,” said Cola CEO David Temkin. “By bringing interactive bubbles into the conversation we let you do more with less texting and keep your life moving.”

Cola combines the ease and immediacy of texting, with the precision and interactivity of an app; it is the only messaging app designed specifically for getting things done. Cola Bubbles make it easy to get input from everybody on your thread with a rich, interactive experience that can collect or deliver all the necessary information with a tap. Whether it’s deciding when to meet, where to go, or where in the world everyone is, Cola lets users do it all with a single Cola Bubble.

Current Bubbles include:

  • Scheduling: “When Can We Meet?”
  • Live location tracking: “Where Are You Now?”
  • Poll/multiple choice question: "Quick Poll”
  • Shared to-do list: “To Do List”

“We recognize that texting is the center of our mobile life; it’s the core experience of having a smartphone,” said Cola CEO David Temkin. “In 20 years of text messaging, the biggest innovation the industry has seen is the ability to share an animated GIF. No one is focused on making texting more useful, and that’s our mission,” Mr. Temkin said.

Cola is working with a select group of third-party developers as it nears completion of its SDK. New 3rd party & partner bubbles are expected to follow in the coming weeks, and the formal SDK program, open to all developers, will launch in late Spring 2016. As the world’s first Messaging OS, Cola is engineered to bring new interactive experiences into text conversations and to extend the functionality of existing products and services into the Cola universe without ever leaving the app.
