Sprint Recognized for its Outstanding Contribution Furthering the Development of TD-LTE

Sprint Receives GTI Market Development Award at Mobile World Congress

BARCELONA, Spain--()--Today at Mobile World Congress Sprint (NYSE: S) was awarded the GTI Market Development Award for its outstanding contribution furthering the development of TD-LTE.

Founded in 2011, GTI (Global TD-LTE Initiative) has been the leading organization to develop and promote TD-LTE globally. With more than 75 commercial networks serving more than 470 million customers and utilizing more than 1.4 million TD-LTE basestations, The GTI Awards program acknowledges the achievements and success of industry players in the TD-LTE ecosystem across a wide range of market segments.

Sprint received this year’s Market Development Award based on the success of its continued deployment of 2.5GHz TD-LTE in the United States. In November 2015 Sprint launched the super-fast LTE Plus Network, and quickly doubled its size to reach more than 150 markets. LTE Plus utilizes 2.5GHz TD-LTE and LTE Advanced technology such as two-channel carrier aggregation and antenna beamforming. Sprint’s analysis of recent Nielsen Mobile Performance data shows the Sprint LTE network delivers faster download speeds than Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, due in part to its successful deployment LTE Plus using 2.5GHz carrier aggregation.1

“We’re delighted to receive this award and support GTI in its development of the global TD-LTE ecosystem,” said Günther Ottendorfer, chief operating officer of technology at Sprint. “We have a unique advantage as the only major carrier in the U.S. to utilize both TD-LTE and FD-LTE in its network design, giving us flexibility in how we allocate bandwidth to best serve our customers. With our super-fast LTE Plus Network and deep TD-LTE spectrum holdings, Sprint is the best-positioned operator in the U.S. to serve customers’ ongoing demand for data. These are exciting times for us as we continue to roll out and improve our LTE Plus Network across the U.S. – you haven’t seen anything yet!”
