Ellen DeGeneres Launches GoFundMe to Raise Millions for Ailing Detroit School

BURBANK, Calif. & PALO ALTO, Calif.--()--On today’s episode of The Ellen Show, Ellen will profile a school desperately in need of help, Spain Elementary Middle School in Detroit. The school needs building repairs, new classroom materials and technology to bring it up to date for its very deserving students. The Ellen Show has secured an initial donation of $500,000 from Lowe’s, but needed a way to make it simple and easy for others worldwide to donate to this worthy cause.

GoFundMe worked with the Ellen Show to build a campaign, starting with a donation from the company of $15,000. The campaign, which was started today, can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/spainschool

“This shows the true power of the GoFundMe platform, it takes minutes to take a campaign like this live so everyone, including Ellen DeGeneres, can make a difference for the causes that matter to them,” said Rob Solomon, GoFundMe CEO. “We were more than happy to kick the fundraising for Spain School off with a donation of our own, and cannot wait to see how much can be raised for the faculty and students to ensure they have the tools and environment necessary for the best education possible.”

The Ellen Show airs weekdays at 4pm local time on NBC. Today’s episode will feature these amazing fundraising efforts. More information can also be found on the Ellen Show website here: http://www.ellentv.com/2016/02/11/donate-to-ellens-gofundme-for-spain-elementary-middle-school/

GoFundMe encourages all to share the link on social media platforms, using #HelpSpainSchool to generate even more visibility and donations for the Spain School.
