La Brea Bakery is Pledging Commitment to go Non-GMO on All Artisan Breads

Leading artisanal bread brand is revolutionizing their bread portfolio to deliver non-GMO breads by the end of 2016

LOS ANGELES--()--La Brea Bakery, North America’s top artisan bread brand, announced today that by the end of the year, its entire line of artisan breads will be non-GMO (genetically modified organisms), making it the first non-GMO artisan bread line available in North America. La Brea Bakery has been baking artisan breads for more than 25 years with a long commitment to using pure, responsibly sourced ingredients, and a promise to delivering great-tasting and quality bread.

“We changed the way people eat and enjoy bread when we introduced consumers to true artisan bread more than 25 years ago,” said Kristina Dermody, President of La Brea Bakery. “We are passionate about food that not only tastes good but is also good for you and responsibly sourced. It was important to us to make the promise to our consumers that we will only use non-GMO ingredients in our artisan breads moving forward. This is the first of many ways La Brea Bakery will be changing the way people think about where their food comes from and the ingredients used. We are proud to be the first North American artisan bread brand that is making this commitment.”

It’s clear that consumers want more non-GMO options. In 2014 Consumer Reports National Research Center survey found that more than 70 percent of Americans say they don’t want GMOs in food. La Brea Bakery’s artisan bakeries will be non-GMO certified, and all La Brea Bakery artisan breads will bear the “Non-GMO Project Verified” seal, meaning that these breads have been verified by the Non-GMO Project’s Product Verification Program.

“We have always been committed to sourcing high-quality ingredients for our breads and foods, and this shift to non-GMO makes sense for us and our consumers,” said Jon Davis, Senior Vice President of Culinary Research and Innovation at La Brea Bakery. “Our ingredient labels are not complex and are already free from any artificial flavors, colors or preservatives, so the commitment to non-GMO is a natural next step for us. Our consumers know that our commitment to quality remains our top priority.”

La Brea Bakery proudly offers a multitude of breads in their portfolio, including dinner and sandwich rolls, baguettes and batards, ciabatta, focaccia, loaves, rounds, ovals, flatbreads, and Take & Bake breads. La Brea Bakery breads and foods can be found at over 6,500 grocery stores in all 50 states and Canada.
