PrismTech Joins the OpenFog Consortium to Help Enable Efficient Edge to Cloud Data Connectivity for the Internet of Things

PrismTech will contribute its extensive expertise in Fog Computing and Edge Computing products and technologies to the OpenFog Consortium

BOSTON--()--PrismTech™, a global leader in software platforms for distributed systems, today announced that it has joined the OpenFog Consortium.

The OpenFog Consortium was formed to accelerate the deployment of fog computing technologies through the development of an open architecture that identifies core technologies and capabilities such as distributed computing, networking, and storage. The OpenFog Consortium was formed by a coalition of leaders in the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem including ARM, Cisco, Dell, Intel, Microsoft Corp, and the Princeton University Edge Laboratory.

Fog computing distributes the resources and services of computation, communication, control, and storage closer to devices and systems at or near the users. The OpenFog non-profit global consortium is driving industry and academic leadership in fog computing architectures with whitepapers, testbeds, and other deliverables that demonstrate best practices for interoperability and composability between cloud and edge architectures. By utilizing existing standards work and proven approaches, the consortium will reduce the time required to deliver the end-to-end IoT scenarios (technologies, architectures, testbeds, and business development) that the market is demanding.

PrismTech has extensive experience in the application of fog computing and edge computing technologies to help enable efficient edge to cloud data connectivity for the IoT. PrismTech’s new Vortex™ Fog product provides secure interest-based routing of real-time data between high performance peer-to-peer UDP (multicast and unicast) enabled edge networks and TCP/IP networks and endpoints, including the cloud. Vortex Fog recently featured as part of the Barcelona City Fog Computing demonstration which successfully showed that different smart city services (including traffic management, smart power control of outdoor cabinets, event-based video, connectivity on demand, sensor telemetry for the cabinets and analytics) could all be managed easily and securely through a centralized and remote dashboard.

“We welcome PrismTech, with its extensive experience in both the technology and the real-world applicability of fog computing, to OpenFog,” said Jeff Fedders, President, OpenFog Consortium. “We look forward to their active contributions in the OpenFog framework architecture and new use cases that will lead to next generation IoT.”

“I’m very pleased that PrismTech has joined the OpenFog Consortium and I’m really looking forward to contributing to its pioneering work on its architecture committee,” said Angelo Corsaro, CTO, PrismTech.

PrismTech will be participating in the OpenFog Consortium’s inaugural member meeting in Chandler, Arizona, USA, February 10-11 2016. Further information about the OpenFog Consortium and the event is available at: http://www.openfogconsortium.org.
